Where Is Walshaw?
Walshaw Lodge is in the heart of Brontë Country, near Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire – HX7 7AX. We are less than an hour’s drive from both Leeds and Manchester.
Directions
As you leave Hebden Bridge, the White Lion public house should be on your left.
Drive up the hill, along the A6033 Keighley Road, past some terraced houses on your left.
After this initial climb, take the second turning off to the left – Midgehole Road. This will be signposted Hardcastle Crags. Make sure you see the signpost to Hardcastle Crags.
Continue along the Midgehole Road until you reach Hardcastle Crags. When you reach Hardcastle Crags, continue up the track. There is a sign saying ‘no unauthorised entry’ – you are authorised. Note this road is a popular walking destination and is not paved. There are also some potholes, so please drive slowly and carefully. This road is about 3 miles long.
Half way along the Crags you will pass Gibson Mill on your left, continue driving straight ahead.
As you emerge from the Crags onto Cow Hey Lane (not signposted), follow the road as it bends left. After a short ways you will hit upon a collection of buildings, a farm and a cottage. Walshaw Lodge is the building on the left.
For practical reasons, we are required to limit the number of cars driving up and down Hardcastle Crags. If possible, please leave some cars in the car park at the bottom of the Crags and consolidate your passengers. The maximum number of cars permitted for any one party is four. Many thanks.
