The latest much anticipated version of Emily Brontë’s classic 1847 novel Wuthering Heights is out in cinemas this November (2011).

The film is directed by Andrea Arnold and the screenplay by Olivia Hetreed. The film stars Kaya Scodelario, Nichola Burley and James Howson.

Walshaw Lodge is located right next to the very moors where the film, and indeed the book are set. The 4 hour hour round-trip walk from Walshaw Lodge to Top Withens and back is a must. Top Withens is the central location for the story, and the iconic moorscape forms an integral part of the new film.

The country house weekend is truly one of the joys of the English tradition. Taking a country house for the weekend is a great way for large groups to celebrate a family occasion, or for interest groups to get away from it all and focus on their shared passion.

Country house weekend breaks are popular with groups for all sorts of reasons, holidaying in the UK and discovering the wealth of beauty and diversity that our own country has to offer. Walshaw Lodge makes the perfect venue for a country house weekend and also offers some of the best walking in the country.

Situated in the heart of Bronte country, Walshaw Lodge is suffused with the romance of Wuthering Heights. From the drawing room and the comfort of a log fire one can look out of the brooding moorland landscape and the walk to Top Withens itself is 4 hour round trip from the property. All these combined elements come together to make Walshaw Lodge the ultimate venue for the perfect country house weekend.

If you are looking for self catering group accommodation, Walshaw Lodge could well be the perfect venue.

The Lodge can accommodate up to 20 and is ideally suited for large group house parties. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped for catering for large numbers. There is an adjacent pantry which provides plenty of storage space for any provisions you may have brought. There are two full sizes fridges available for use. There is a further fridge in the bar area which is a delightful feature of Walshaw Lodge.

We do ask that our guests try and limit the number of cars driving up Hardcastle Crags as it is a popular walking destination and owned by the National Trust. Subject to availability, we may be able to collect guests from Hebden Bridge station if this is arranged well in advance. Most of our guests arrive in the evening when the walkers have left anyway.

For those looking for self catering group accommodation, there are a number of options that one could try. There are hostels which can often accommodate large parties even in one room. Not to most people’s idea of a good weekend away though.

Another option is Inn or Bed and Breakfast group accommodation. The trouble with such offerings is that they are often quite small and therefore the limit the size of the group that can stay in the same place.

Walshaw Lodge offers luxury self catering group accommodation which is ideally suited to the needs of extended family get togethers or house parties. The pricing of Walshaw Lodge is very reasonable when compared to alternatives for group accommodation. And what really sets it apart is the location and the building itself. For an unforgettable weekend away with a group Walshaw Lodge is definitely worth your consideration.

Hebden Bridge has established itself as popular tourist destination with many local attractions and some of the most popular walking in Britain, according to the National Trust.

As a result there is a constant demand for accommodation in Hebden Bridge.

The exquisite setting, the luxurious decor and the unique character of Walshaw Lodge make it a unique and popular offering. Walshaw Lodge is officially categorised as a self catering property which means that guests have to book the whole property as a unit. For this reason we do have minimum requirements for bookings as detailed in our rate sheet.

We do receive a number of enquiries from people looking for just a small number of rooms. Unfortunately we are unable to rent rooms on an individual basis. However, there are plenty of other excellent options in and around Hebden Bridge for such accommodation. Here are some links.

Hebden Bridge Accommodation Options

The Packhorse Inn

The Packhorse Inn is one of the best and most loved family run pubs in the area. They now have a luxurious apartment to rent next door.

The first floor boasts a modern open plan lounge & kitchen, fully equipped with washing machine and microwave, TV and wall mounted flame effect fire with stunning moorland views. There is also a twin bedded room with en suite bathroom. On the second floor, accommodation comprises a spacious master bedroom with king size 4 poster bed with enough room for an extra bed for a child. En suite bathroom with bath.

The apartment is situated amid 5 reservoirs, each in it’s own stunning environment whether it be a windy day with plumes of water crashing over the bankings, the dazzling blue waters in sunlight or the still calmness on frosty days – all sights to be beheld and a mecca for budding photographers.

With a traditional country inn ‘The Packhorse’ only yards away and harbouring a great reputation for good honest food at reasonable prices, you may wish to use the term ‘self catering accommodation’ loosely.

Moyles Hotel

Moyles Hotel is a boutique hotel with a fine attention to detail that offers that touch of luxury right in the town centre of Hebden Bridge. It also has a bar and restaurant where the ingredients are fresh and as many as possible are sourced locally. This hotel brings an air of sophisticated yet unpretentious elegance to the accommodation sector in Hebden Bridge.

The White Lion Hotel

The White Lion Hotel is a traditional coaching inn, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. On a riverside location in central Hebden Bridge and dating back to 1657, the inn is well known for excellent food, wines and a wide choice of real cask ales. With 10 spacious en suite bedrooms and famous for its cooked-to-order breakfasts, it is ideal accommodation for visitors wishing to explore the Calder Valley and Brontë country.

Kersal House

Kersal House bed and breakfast is centrally located with convenient access to all the local facilities of Hebden Bridge. They offer modern B&B accommodation, with all rooms having en suite bathrooms. The Hebden Bridge location is ideal for those exploring The Pennine Way, Bronte Country, or the historic villages nearby such as Heptonstall and Haworth.

Angledale

Angledale is a traditional Pennine B&B Guest House catering for tourists, cyclists, walkers and railway enthusiasts alike, all of whom can expect a very warm welcome from their hosts Christine and Stephen.
